Our cause and mission

At Exascend, we prioritize responsible business practices.

As a company, we strive to minimize our operations’ impact on the environment and maximize their benefits to society. Through conscious accountability, we aspire to become a positive driving force, igniting and inspiring change at all levels – not just technological, but also social and environmental.

Energy-Efficient SSDs

In an age of massive data production and consumption, the capacity, I/O performance, and power of a storage device become increasingly critical. To address the growing market gap, serve the storage needs of emerging markets and Fortune 500 companies, help improve thermal resilience and energy efficiency, and lower CO2 emissions, we set out to create a one-stop, full-service, integrated drive manufacturer with an optimized, nimble supply chain to deliver products with short turnaround – offering unmatched agility and velocity

Over the span of a little over 10 years, NAND flash technologies have progressed leaps and bounds. New applications are transforming the storage industry with challenges that only SSDs can address. Today, a single PCIe Gen4 SSD is 100 times faster than an HDD in sequential performance and at least 60K times faster in random performance. Therefore, powerconsumption per IOPS also demands energy spent thousands of times more efficiently.

We consult closely with our key customers to create a new product definition, re-defining flash storage for the real world, bringing to the market well-balanced products, taking meticulous attention to power, thermal, performance, capacity, form factor, interface connectivity and ruggedization.

The Future of Storage

SSD memory density continues to scale past HDD as well. This means that servers and data centers now have SSDs with extremely high storage densities and performancestrong > unmatched by HDDs. Additionally, SSDs are highly resistant to shocks, vibrations, and air pressure changes, making them ideal for rugged applications.

In short, HDDs are increasingly being replaced by SSDs in traditional data centers and high-performance servers – and Exascend is at the forefront of this  revolution. Observing the micro-factors and trends at play, climate change and global warming are issues we can’t ignore.

Globally, data centers were estimated to use between 200 TWh to 400 TWh in 2020. This translates to about 1-2% of global electricity demand. Of that, data centers spend 40% of their power on cooling and storage – or roughly 100 TWh. By 2030, energy consumed by data center is expected to double. The associated CO2 emission could exceed the aviation industry of 2% of annual human generated CO2.

Be a catalyst for change

We consult closely with our key customers to create a new product definition, re-defining flash storage for the real world, bringing to the market well-balanced products, taking meticulous attention to power, thermal, performance, capacity, form factor, interface connectivity and ruggedization.

Our commitments

Sustainability

Our Sustainability objectives include compliance with newer environmental impact assessment regulations, reducing carbon emissions, and eliminating overpackaging.
Exascend develops technologies that reduce the carbon footprint of storage systems by using less power. We serve this purpose with proprietary technologies like the Adaptive Thermal Control™, which improves system thermals, airflow, and acoustic design complexity, thus helping lower system BOM cost.
We have won industry recognition in our innovative technologies. In 2022, our Nitro CFexpress won Flash Memory Summit’s Most Innovative Technology for Consumer Applications, and our Industrial-grade PCIe E1.S SSD is the Embedded World winner of the Most Innovative Industrial Storage Products.

Green management

We are proud to be certified as a Sony Green Partner in May 2023. As part of our Green management initiatives, we have established a no-hazardous substance management system and a green supplier management system. We require our suppliers to comply with local environmental protection laws and regulations on raw materials, packaging, and pollution emissions, and provide testing reports on environmental management systems, including declarations and prohibitions of certain chemicals and substances.

Social engagement

Our Social engagement efforts include sponsoring high-quality flash storage solutions for content creators documenting important international events such as the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Exascend contributed memory cards to the CCTV documentary “Above the Great Rivers“, which was created by a joint team of Chinese and international cinematographers over five years. The documentary about wildlife on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau aired on multiple channels of China Central Radio and Television in March, 2022.

Development goals

On the edge, there’s no one-size-fits-all SSD. Instead, we adapt by exploring commonalities between customers and markets, leveraging our platform mission-optimized hardware and firmware customizations to meet a multitude of requirements.
We start with an optimized, low-power hardware design. Our design target is 40-50% of traditional enterprise SSD’s power consumption. Exascend achieves our design target by finding the right low-power controller, meeting our performance and capacity requirements, characterizing and selecting the best NAND flash components for the target application. It is a very delicate balance between power, thermal, sustained performance and capacity. Our innovated hardware design sets us apart from the competition.
Since inception, we have continued to build our customer base with our service-focused approach. Our vision of Exascend v2.0 is to continue to invest and focus on key customers and markets. We intend to move up the value chain, leverage our storage expertise to provide tailored system-level storage solutions to our customers.

Regulation compliances

Exascend, a leading manufacturer of industrial and enterprise storage solutions, is compliant with the EU directives on hazardous substances (RoHS 2011/65/EU), Packaging and Packaging Waste (PPW 94/62/EC), and the EC directive on chemical substances (REACH 1907/2006/EC).

Healthy workplace

Exascend puts our employees’ welfare and safety first. We comply fully with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which specifies a code of conduct and prohibits misconduct such as child labor. We are currently in the process of becoming ISO 45001-certified, which is expected to be complete by the end of this year.
